Niima – made with CLT
Niima is built with Cross-laminated timber (CLT), an engineered wood that is both functional and visually appealing. This choice supports local economies by boosting demand for regional forestry products and manufacturing, while also mitigating environmental impacts typically associated with concrete and steel construction. The use of mass timber has allowed for the addition of more residential units, promoting density without compromising design aesthetics or building safety.
The benefits
Economic impact
Using mass timber boosts local economies by creating jobs in sustainable manufacturing and green construction.
Sustainable building materials
CLT reduces carbon emissions by approx. 40% compared to traditional materials like concrete and steel.
Durability and efficiency
CLT boasts a higher strength-to-weight ratio than concrete or steel, enhancing building efficiency and design flexibility.
A closer look at CLT
Cross-laminated timber (CLT) is made by stacking and gluing layers of dimensional lumber in alternating 90-degree orientations, then pressing them to create clean, edge-glued panels. CLT is renowned for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, surpassing that of traditional building materials such as concrete or steel. This superior strength allows for greater design flexibility and efficiency during construction, laying a strong foundation for Niima's innovative structure.
A transformative, biophilic living experience
The biophilic design of Niima skillfully bridges the gap between human design and nature. By incorporating natural wood construction and exposed ceilings, it fosters a more natural living environment that significantly enhances our well-being.
